Cheap lighters you can still refill
Cheap lighters do not have to be disposable. The models in this category cost little and are refillable all the same, and that is the difference between a lighter that lasts weeks and one that lasts years.
A large share of them are sets of four or five, which brings the price per lighter down further and lets you leave one everywhere.
What to watch out for when buying cheap
You buy a disposable lighter again a few times a year. Work that out over five years and you end up higher than with a refillable model plus gas. So the purchase price is not the same as what it costs you.
Refillable or not
Look for a small metal valve at the bottom. If it is not there, it is a disposable model and you throw the whole thing away once the tank is empty.
Singly or in a set
Sets of four or five are cheaper per lighter and handy if you want one lying in several places: kitchen, shed, car, barbecue.
Where it wears out
Not the tank but the ignition gives up first. A lighter that is filled with clean gas and is not always at its highest setting lasts noticeably longer.
Refill with butane gas at 45 PSI and wait a minute after filling. At lower pressure the flame starts to sputter and the valve clogs up.
