Silver Match lighters, metal and several flames
With us Silver Match sits in the upper segment. The models are metal, usually have three or four jet flames and carry city names: Monaco, Paris, Minsk, Vaduz, Belfast.
Almost all of them are aimed at cigars. Some have a built in cigar rest or a punch, and some come in a gift box.
Which Silver Match do you choose?
The difference from a cheaper model lies in material and construction. A cast metal body does not warp, the lid closes tightly, and the flame is adjustable rather than fixed. You only notice that after a year, when a thin plastic body already has play in it.
Within the brand itself the models differ mainly in the number of flames and in whether they carry tools for cigars.
Two, three or four flames
Most models have three jet flames. Together they form a broad hot cone, which works well on the foot of a cigar because it then lights evenly instead of on one side.
With cigar rest or punch
Some of these models have a fold out rest or a cigar punch on board. That saves carrying separate tools, and the punch keeps the wrapper intact where a cutter can tear it.

Refill with butane gas at 45 PSI and wait a minute after filling. At lower pressure or with less pure gas the flame starts to sputter and the valve clogs up.

How do you refill a Silver Match lighter?
Hold it upside down, press the can straight onto the valve at the bottom and fill calmly until gas escapes. Then wait a minute and set the flame low first before you turn it up.

What is a cigar punch?
A small punch that makes a round hole in the head of the cigar instead of cutting it off. The wrapper stays intact and the draw becomes tighter.

Which gas do you use for this?
Butane gas at 45 PSI. On a finely tuned model you notice contaminated gas straight away: the flame stays low or starts to sputter, even when the tank is full.
